Color with Confidence Class Description:

Many people make good handcrafted soap that feels great on the skin. But what sets yours apart from the rest? Does your natural soap end up a shade of tan, off white or gray? A beautifully colored soap attracts attention and practically sells itself. Do you know the difference between dyes and pigments? Do oxides morph or bleed in soap? What’s a lake color? After studying this E-Class you’ll choose colors for your soap confidently and have predictable outcomes. By controlling and playing with color, you can easily turn your ho-hum bars into mini-works of art.

Learn from Lori Nova, two-time award winner and three-time speaker at the Handcrafted Soapmakers Guild conferences, the pros and cons of colors used for soapmaking like Pigments (Oxides, Ultramarines), Dyes (LabColors, Soapalooza, Gel Tones), Lakes, Neons, Pop Micas, and last but not least, the Naturals (Clays, Herbs & Spices).

You'll read about (on the Text Handouts) and see (on the Full Color Slide Show) results of the 77 different colors tested in Cold Process (CP) Soap in all the above categories. CP soap is the most difficult and unpredictable of all the soap making processes due to the interaction between the sodium hydroxide (lye) and the colors themselves.

The information you receive in this E-Class will also help you color ALL COSMETICS once you understand what makes each of the colors different you should be able to better predict how they will react in different mediums. It is my hope that this E-Class will not only inform, but also inspire you!
